Santa Fe College (SF) has added some new ways to take classes. If you want to stay home and learn online, there’s a few different options. Or, if you’re more comfortable being on campus, in a classroom, you can do that, too. With all these new choices, you might find registration is a little more confusing. It’s nothing you can’t handle! And if you need help, you can always reach out to your advisor.
In this video you will learn how to review your options for this semester using eSantaFe.
If you are willing to follow safety protocols and physical distancing guidelines – including wearing a mask – you can register for in-person, “IRL” or “in real life,” face-to-face classes. There's also SF Online, Traditional Hybrid and Hybrid Virtual classes. Be sure to watch the video to understand the differences between them.
Choosing the class that’s right for you is going to be a very personal decision. It really depends on your situation. What kind of challenges are you facing? Maybe you have internet, but you need to share it throughout the day with roommates or family members? That might affect whether or not you can attend a hybrid virtual class on a regular basis, or if you’d do better with the more flexible SF Online classes. If you have internet but don’t have access to a computer, don’t try to do your classwork on your phone! The college has laptops you can borrow. You just need to apply.
If you’re still not sure what classes are right for you, academic advisers are really helpful when it comes to talking about your personal academic needs and the best classes and formats for your unique situation. SF Online also has a checklist, in case you’re not sure whether online classes are right for you. sfcollege.edu/online/is-online-learning-for-you.
SF Online has been around since 1999. SF Online classes are organized in Canvas, our learning management system. Course materials may include on-demand videos, reading assignments, quizzes or other resources. You’ll have assignments and deadlines to keep up with, but you have more flexibility throughout the day to work on them during the times that best fit your schedule. SF Online is a great option if you are a caregiver or have a work schedule that changes, or if you have limited transportation or any other challenges that make it difficult for you to show up to a class consistently. Some people just prefer it. Some students earn their entire degree though SF Online.
Remember that all SF students have access to free tutoring and academic success coaching through the Learning Commons.
Above all else we want to help you to be successful. We’re trying to keep you safe and guarantee your academic success.
